USA OPENS 2011 WOMEN’S WORLD CUP AGAINST KOREA DPR: The USA will open the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup on Tuesday, June 28, taking on Korea DPR in a match broadcast live on ESPN (pre-game show begins at 11:45 a.m. ET) and Galavison. The match will be played at Rudolf-Harbig Stadium, home to Dynamo Dresden, which achieved promotion to the second flight of German soccer for next season. The sparklingly facility opened in September of 2009 and a near capacity crowd is expected at the 22,933-seat venue. Dresden is the easternmost of the nine venues being used for the tournament. This will be the second consecutive Women’s World Cup in which the USA has opened against Korea DPR and the fourth consecutive Women’s World Cup in which the two countries have met in group play. The USA continues Group C play against Colombia on July 2 in Sinsheim (which is sold out at the 25,641-seat Rhein-Neckar-Arena) and Sweden on July 6 in Wolfsburg.
